An MTBI or Mild Traumatic Brain Injury, which includes concussions, can happen to anyone, but so many people aren’t aware when they suffer from one. That’s because so many people think this type of MTBI only occurs if a person is knocked unconscious, but that is not always the case.
When a person suffers a concussion, there is a rippling effect throughout the body that can cause the connective tissue, which holds the spine in place, to be torn loose. That tearing of the connective tissue weakens the spine, thus causing it to break down and lock into a position that causes stress on the body.
Because of the positioning of the upper cervical spine, which consists of the top two vertebrae in the spine, just below the brainstem, the shifting of the weight of the head can stretch and damage the tissue around it.
Though, the repositioning of your head doesn’t stop there. Your eyes and ears will then begin to reposition themselves through a process called righting reflex, which keeps them balanced with the horizon using the semicircular canals in the ears.
After that happens, the spine will need to adapt to that repositioning by twisting and turning. This will cause an imbalance in the shoulders, hips, legs, and more leading to an unequal distribution of weight throughout the body.
Untwisting your Twisted Body
Though, there are numerous problems that may result from a misalignment of as slight as ¼ of a millimeter, there is a procedure that can correct that misalignment. An upper cervical chiropractor is able to examine the upper neck vertebrae for any misalignments that may be the underlying cause of any misalignments in your upper neck vertebrae. They will then make the needed adjustments, so as to relieve that pressure, so the body can begin to heal itself.
